Automag Dirty Harry - Just wanted to say to all, thank you for the nice comments. I really mean it. I hope this isn't going off topic, but I found some Auto Mag photos from 15-20 years ago. Sorry for the poor quality, the photos are an analysis. The first is a picture of me and Colonel Bob Gideon. He was a crew chief for B-24s during World War II. Bob brought a lot of class to the Auto Mag world. He truly loved life. Sadly, Bob passed away a few years ago. The second photo is of a 357 8 1/2 VR barrel, during the process, you get an idea. The last pic is of an 8 1/2 VR barrel I changed from a 10 1/2". The top is a 357, the bottom is a 44. Glad to see you guys are keeping it.

Love the VR Bbl pic too, as someone with zero machinist skills I appreciate the work of a true professional and yours is clearly 1st class.

Thanks Bob for sharing the photos. I never met the Colonel, but I talked to him a lot. In the early 90's I worked a lot (mostly tuning and repairing). I threatened to meet him at a gun show in Seattle, but that never happened. shame I loved getting to know him.

As for Clint, I'll back off with my idea to contact him about Clint One. After reading Brian's story, I strongly believe that even if they were able to contact him, there would be no response, or regret for the upset. Probably like when Wm Shatner told them at that Star Trek reunion or whatever.

But if Elvis were still with us, I'm pretty sure we'd get a polite response from him about the couple of consecutive numbers I've heard.

Anyway, Eric, a question about your .323 8 MM KMP Kurz for AM. What would you think the "factory" fps would be on that 125 grainer. I wanted to run it through an internet power calculator for a laugh and see what hunting power it has. Since you are basically the "factory", it would obviously be whatever you think is appropriate.

The closest revolver loads I can think of are the .327 Federal Magnum and the .32 H&R Magnum. Both are well below the 1K ft lb terminal effect that I find suitable for deer-sized game, other than as a secondary finish. This shows that it is the primary weapon for yotes and other varmints. Just curious...

Yes, I'm sure all of you who knew Colonel Bob Gideon will agree that this was a class 1 act. That's why I put his picture here, in case you didn't get a chance to see it. I did a lot of Auto Mag deals with Bob 15-20 years ago. Hi things were always as good or better than he described. Remember the days when we could capture computer images on a screen. Just the gun list, Shotgun News or word of mouth, I'm starting to feel a little old man. As I have said before, I feel that Bob loved life. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that a B-24 had survived more than 25 missions during World War II commanding a bombing raid. He didn't brag, but if you asked, he would tell you what it was like on the ship and in fire or flak. Bob told me that flake was the worst of all because there was no defense. I had the opportunity to meet Bob once. I could tell Bob was used to thinking and making decisions, so a colonel in the Army Aircorp. We went to a restaurant for lunch and the waiter sat us in the sun, Bob immediately asked if we could sit somewhere else without sunlight. Then when a server comes to take our order, you can believe the old saying. he was speaking to him in French. This gentleman was an 80-year-old gentleman. I really miss Bob.

Actually, I think Wing Commander Colonel Robert Gideon said. I really can't think of a better man or American than Bob. Nothing but class.
